Boys Soccer Remain Undefeated
September 16, 2009
Just one game out from the midway point in the season and the Boys Soccer squad still remains undefeated. The team's overall record is 6-0-1, while standing a perfect 3-0-0 in WSC Conference action. After defeating Wellington on Saturday, the Eagles battled the Elyria Catholic Panthers and and won 2-0. Goals were scored by Seniors Ryan Galik and Ryan Roberts. "EC is always a good team, so tonight we're happy to walk away with a win. We are getting better and better and that's our goal. Of course, it's good to win games right now, but honestly our main focus is to continue to improve....and the boys have shown great dedication towards that goal." Tonight Avon Boys Soccer faced off in their 3rd conference game of the year. Able to continue their streak, the Eagles fought til the end to edge out the Pirates of Rocky River. 2-1 was the final score. Avon dominated the play in the first half, only to go into halftime tied 0-0. Then the scoring opened when Ryan Galik laced a direct kick into the upper corner of the oppositions net making the score 1-0. Galik is leading the team in goals with 5. Rocky River retaliated shortly after on a long throw-in and a scrabble in the box. Then once and for all the game was decided by a well placed strike by Junior Forward Nathan Ogden. "I am definitely pleased, but not suprised by our record. We have a good team, lot's of experience on the field. One of the best things about this group is that we do not rely on just a couple guys to pull us through, someone different always seems to step up. This is a very talented group of players and we're looking forward competing next Monday" Boys Soccer faces Padua HS next Monday in Parma.
Boys Soccer win 4 Straight
September 13, 2009
Avon Boys Soccer Wins 4th Straight The Eagles won a decisive 3-0 match over a potential District Tournament opponent, the Dukes of Wellington. Sophomore Ryan Repas opened the scoring about 10 minutes in when he poked home a thru pass that he received from Junior Nathan Ogden. "It was good to get an early lead, something we haven't been able to do much this season. Ryan is exceptional at finding himself in the right place at the right time. Ryan scores plenty and most of his goals are all because of his ability to find the openings." Five minutes later Junior Danny Brown doubled the score as he sailed a well placed shot passed the Wellington goalkeeper. Brown's goal came once again off of a pass from Ogden. "We're scoring goals and that's nice to see. All of our forwards and midfielders are contributing this season and I think we'll get even better once we get a little more comfortable in front of the goal." The 2nd half began and it was much of the same. Avon controlled play and put away one more to make it 3-0 on a goal by Ogden, assisted by Brown. Nathan Ogden was a part of each of our three goals today. The Eagles are now 4-0-1 Overall, 2-0 in WSC play and ranked 5th place overall in the Cleveland area for all Divisions II teams. Good Luck on Monday September 14th vs. Elyria Catholic HS. The game is at Avon Middle School 5/7pm. Hope to see you there!
Boys Soccer Off and Rolling!
September 10, 2009
Last night Avon High School Boys Soccer captured their third straight victory when they defeated conference foe Fairview High School. The win marked their second straight WSC conference victory, improving their WSC record to 2-0-0 and 3-0-1 Overall. Opening the scoring in the 1st half was Junior Forward Nathan Ogden and in the 2nd half Senior Ryan Roberts and Sophomore Brendan Cannon put the game out of reach as the Eagles edged the Warriors of Fairview. "We've gotten off to a good start this year", says Coach Dore'. "I am happy with the effort the boys have put in so far. It seems that there is a renewed importance for these guys. We've set some lofty goal but I feel that the boys are prepared to reach them." To begin the season the Eagles faced off against first time opponent Notre Dame Cathedral Latin from Chardon, Ohio. Avon fell behind early but were able to comeback on a well-placed strike from Senior Midfielder and Captain Ryan Galik. Galik's goal came from a nice lay off pass from Junior Nathan Ogden. This hard fought match ended in a draw and the season was off and rolling. "I think our nerves affected the way we played this game. The effort was surely there, but we were in a rush, not thinking ahead. We'll be working on our patience, ball movement and anticipation at training, you can bet on that. Notre Dame is traditionally a very strong team, so a tie against this school is not the worst way to start of the season. We're looking forward to getting on the game field again and I'm positive we'll be much more focused and relaxed come Orange High School." Orange High School from Pepper Pike, Ohio make the trek to Avon for the second game of the young season. Last year Avon was handed a one goal loss and the Eagles were looking for revenge. "From start to finish we played much better than our opener and that's what you like to see from a coaches perspective...improvement, steps forward." On this evening the Eagles walked away victors as they handed Orange HS their second loss of the season. 3-1. Goals were scored by Danny Brown, Zach Taranto, and Ryan Galik. The first WSC game came next, when North Ridgeville traveled next door to Avon. "We did not know what to expect with this game. In conference games anything can happen. But the boys came to play!" The Eagles won 7-0 in a very well played soccer game. "This was the best we've ever played and it was such pleasure to watch." The scoring opened with a goal by Ryan Repas and the Eagles never looked back. The remainder of the scoring was handled by Nathan Ogden, Miguel Borras Salom, Ryan Galik, Quinn Rambo, and Brendan Cannon (2). First year Goal Keeper Ryan Poyle has been big for us, another example of someone stepping up from the team. Congratulations Eagles!!! Best of luck vs. Wellington High School on Saturday, September 12th 1:00pm (AWAY).
