Fasciana Sets School Record

On Saturday the two Avon State cross country qualifiers, Blake Pecoraro and Austin Fasicana, competed at the State Cross Country Championships in Hebron, Ohio. Both boys culminated the season with lifetime personal bests. Pecoraro finished with a time of 16:05 placing 45th while Fasciana finished with a time of 15:46 placing 17th, surpassing the previous school record by 9 seconds set by Tyler Kvach in 2010. Congratulations, gentlemen on a super job representing Avon.
State Cross Country Finals on Saturday

Austin Fasciana and Blake Pecoraro will represent Avon at the State Cross Country meet on Saturday. Austin and Blake qualified for the State finals at Tiffin regionals last weekend.

Cross Country - Boys Are District Champs!

The Eagles Cross Country team had a strong showing at the District Meet this past weekend at Lorain County Community College. The boys team finished first, outdistancing runner-up Avon Lake, 44-63, and 3rd place St. Ed's, as well as 4th place Lakewood. They were led by first place overall finisher Blake Pecoraro, followed by Sean Kane and Austin Fasciana who finished 5th and 6th respectively. Ben Smith finished 11th place and Alex Shermack rounded out the top scorers in 21st place. Matt Beltz finished 32nd and Joe Goetz finished 36th. The girls team finished as runner-ups to Bay 50-86, defeating 3rd place Magnificat and 4th place Amherst. The girls were led by Alli Clark's 6th place finish, Erin Laird's 15th place finish, and Linda Morales's 16th place finish. Kaitlyn Robertson and Annie Bowen finished 32nd and 38th place respectively. Kellie O'Keefe and Julia Koehler rounded out the girls varsity team with their 44th and 66th place finishes. The boys and girls teams will race at the Tiffin Regional meet this Saturday, top four teams and top 16 individuals will qualify for the state meet!

Avon Cross Country Conference Recap

The Avon boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Bay Village this weekend to compete in the WSC Championship races. The boys earned a back-to-back conference championship, beating the second place team of Bay Village by more than 30 points. Junior Austin Fasciana won his second conference championship with a time of 16:12. Blake Pecoraro (16:18), Sean Kane (16:37), Ben Smith (16:40), Alex Shermak (17:19), Matt Beltz (17:19), and Joe Goetz (17:36) rounded out Avon's Varsity squad. The Avon ladies earned a second place spot at Conference, losing to Bay Village by a thin margin. The lady eagles were led by sophomore Alli Clark running a 19:44, just six seconds away from the school record. Avon's top five girls all finished under 20:15-Linda Morales (19:54), Erin Laird (19:58), Kaitlin Robertson (20:13), and Annie Bowen (20:15). Julia Koehler (21:31) and Kellie O'Keefe (21:58) completed the varsity squad. Fantastic efforts were shown by every member of the team, with many runners achieving their PR's and proving that perseverance is key.
The boys and girls cross country teams continue their journey to States this weekend with the District races at LCCC on Saturday. The boys race at 1:45 and the girls at 3:15. Come see our amazing boys and girls cross country squads.
Cross Country - Legends Meet

On Saturday the boys and girls cross country teams competed at The Legends Invitational at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. Ramping up for Conference the boys finished a close third place while the girls placed fifth. Both teams demonstrated outstanding team running. Congratulations to the Avon boys and girls cross country teams on a solid performance.
The WSC Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, October 13th at the nearby Cahoon Park in Bay Village. Come see our runners compete - you will be astounded. The boys race starts at 10:00 am and the girls race is 10:45.

Cross Country Boys 1st Place!

On Friday night the boys' cross country team, again, grabbed a commnanding first place, outpacing Avon Lake and St. Edward in a seventeen-team field. So far this year the boys team has three runner-up finishes and two victories in big meets. Austin Fasciana, the consistent front-runner for the varsity boys, finished first overall, followed by Blake Pecoraro (3rd), Sean Kane (7th), Alex Shermak (15th), Corey Hermann (28th), Matt Beltz (30th) and Michael Stoffiere (34th).
The top JV boys were Joey Yanoska, Henry Jani, Wes Ford, Kyle Wardrope, Drew Dudukovich and Austin Reed. Of special note, Brian Fielding eclipsed his previous PR by over one minute.
The lady runners placed fourth out of 16 teams in a tight race, still finishing close behind the first place team. Freshman Erin Laird lead the way for the Eagles, placing 11th overall. Alli Clark (14th), Linda Morales (16th), Kaitlyn Roberston (20th), Annie Bowen (28th), Julia Koehler (52nd) and Monica Bickley (66th) rounded out the top seven Avon finishers. Freshman Sonja Bell placed tops for the JV girls.
Great effort, Cross Country Runners! On Saturday afternoon both teams will compete at the Legends Meet at Trumbull Country Fairgrounds.
Cross Country Cloverleaf Update

Avon HS Cross Country had an individual Silver plus two team Silvers at Saturday's Colt Pack Invitational at Cloverleaf HS.
Austin Fasciana's second place finish led the boys to their second place team finish. Sean Kane (11th) Pecoraro (15th) and Ben Smith (16th). Corey Hermann concluded Avon's scoring.
Ali Clark (8th) was Avon girl's top finisher, pacing that team which finished tied at 96 points with first place North Royalton, the place coming down to each team's sixth runner. Linda Morales (11th), Erin Laird (15th), Annie Bowen (29th) and Kaitlin Robertson (33rd) finished the scoring for Avon.
The Eagles next travel to the Paul Primeau Invitational at Gilmour Academy on Friday.
XC - McDonough Invitational

The Avon Eagles Cross Country guys’ and gals’ teams traveled to Cleveland Heights last weekend to compete at the VASJ McDonough Invitational. The men’s team pulled an astonishing victory, placing first out of sixteen teams. Top five scoring runners included Austin Fasciana (2nd place, 16:19), Sean Kane (6th place, 17:07), Ben Smith (8th place, 17:17), Blake Pecararo (14th place, 17:49), and Matt Beltz (20th place, 17:57). Runners Michael Young and Joe Goetz rounded out the last two spots.
The girls’ team also put forward a great effort on Saturday, ending up 5th out of 19 teams. Top girl finishers were Alli Clark (9th place, 20:13), Erin Laird (20th place, 20:45), Linda Morales (21st place, 20:47), Annie Bowen (44th place, 21:29), and Kaitlin Robertson (50th place, 21:41). Monica Bickley and Kellie O’Keefe placed sixth and seventh respectively for the Avon ladies’ team.
Other runners also performed phenomenally at McDonough. Congratulations to the following athletes for receiving their PR’s in the JV and Open races (personal records): Joey Yanoska, Ryan Prieto, Josh Bohn, Tyler Getsay, Nick Kearney, Kendra Pierce, Lauren Donat, and Gracie Fumic

The Avon Boys competed at the competitive Tiffin Carnival Saturday. The boys placed 16th out of 41 teams and the girls placed 10th among 36 teams. Alli Clark lead the ladies with a personal best of 19:48, 9 seconds off Erin Schneider’s 5K. Linda Morales (20:16), Erin Laird (20:17), Kaitlyn Robertson (20:57) and Annie Bowen (21:07) rounded out the top five scoring positions. Austin Fasciana led the boys’ charge with a life best time of 15:59, just 4 seconds off the school record mark set by Tyler Kvach. Top five scoring spots also included from Sean Kane (16:57), Ben Smith (17:15), Corey Hermann (17:46) and Matt Beltz (17:57).
Both teams head to compete at the McDonough Invitational at Forest Hills Park on Saturday. Competition starts at 10:40 am. Good luck ladies and gentlemen.
Cross Country - Early Bird Results

At the Early Bird Meet on Saturday both the Avon High School boys and girls cross country teams had strong performances. The boys placed third among fourteen teams while the girls place fourth among seventeen teams.
The top performances on the boys side came from frontrunning Junior Austin Fasciana, who placed fourth in the field of 100 runners. Sophomores Sean Kane and Ben Smith sealed the second and third spots for Avon, respectively. Rounding out the top five scoring positions were Junior Corey Hermann and Senior Matt Beltz.
Standout Sophomore Alli Clark led the Avon girls pack, placing eighth overall. Freshman Erin Laird, Senior Linda Morales, Junior Kellie O'Keefe and Senior Kaitlin Robertson made up the top five scoring positions.
Congratulations on a strong effort ladies and gentlemen.
