Girls Basketball - Defeat Avon Lake

The Varsity Lady Eagles beat the Lady Shoregals of Avon Lake on Saturday 45-41. The Eagles overcame a 10 point deficit in the 4th quarter to sneak by the Shoregals and to advance to the District Semi-Finals. The team was led by Sophomore, Sierra Davidson who scored 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, and Freshman Allie Bjorn who grabbed 12 rebounds and contributed 5 points. Sophomore, Regan Betts was a spark off the bench for the team by contributing 6 points, 4 of which came in the 4th quarter comeback, and grabbing 2 steals. Junior, Payton Mitchell grabbed 3 steals for the team and contributed 6 points. Freshman, Catie Kelly and Sophomore, Jessica Yurkovich hit key free throw in the last two minutes of the game to secure the lead for the Eagles. The team travels to Elyria Catholic this Wednesday, 2/27 to play Magnificat in the District Semi-Finals @ 7:30pm. Please come out and show your support for the Eagles!!
Frosh Girls Basketball - WSC Champs!

Last night the Avon Lady Freshman Eagles Basketball team won the West Shore Conference Tournament 42-35 in a hard fought battle with the Lakewood Rangers. Eagles were led in scoring by Alex Kozich with 15 points, Zanny Sauter with 8 points and Alyssa Douzos with 8. Mackenzie Hanucin lead a fierce Avon defense effort along with Shannon Kane, Gillian Salas, Amanda Tamesis, Rachael Rauterkus and Cassie Wise. The Lady Eagles finished the season with a 19-3 record and a West Shore Conference Championship. Congratulations to the team on a great season.

The Varsity Lady Eagles won their final regular season game against the Lady Middies of Midview last night 67-32. The team celebrated Senior night last night and recognized the wonderful accomplishments of these young ladies. The team and coaching staff would like to thank the seniors again for their hard work and dedication to the program over the past four years, and we look forward to hearing about future successes in years to come.
Last night, the Eagles were led by their Seniors Bri Smith, Meaghan Rooney, Kaitlin Neumann, and Tina Petrillo who all put forth great effort in their last home game of their careers. Sophomore, Sierra Davidson and Senior, Kaitlin Neumann both grabbed 14 rebounds each. Sophomore, Sierra Davidson and Junior, Payton Mitchell led the team in scoring 10 point each and Senior, Bri Smith contributed 9 points and had 4 steals. Freshman, Catie Kelly scored her 8 points all with free throws finishing the night 8 for 10 from the line. Sophomore, Bri Conroy also contributed 8 points. Senior, Tina Petrillo and Sophomore, Jess Yurkovich each had 4 steals to lead the team defensively. Junior, Rachael Poling contributed 6 points and Freshman, Allie Bjorn contributed 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Junior, Erin Crotty, Sophomore, Regan Betts, and Freshman, Sarah Sprecher came into the game to play great defense for the team.
This was a great team effort and a great win!! The Lady Eagles begin their tournament run on Saturday, February 23rd @ 1pm vs. Avon Lake @ Elyria Catholic. Please come out and show your support for the team. Go Eagles!
Congratulations to the JV Lady Eagles who completed their season undefeated with their win over Midview last night. The Eagles took control of the game early applying pressure and creating turnovers leading to a 16 to 2 lead after the first quarter. The Eagles defense led by Kassie Clements, Katie Malloy and Jaylise Medcalf helped them to extend their lead to win by a final score of 51 to 23. Leading the Eagles in scoring was Sarah Sprecher with 13 points, followed by Regan Betts with 9 points and 8 points each for Alyssa Douzos and Myranda Barak. Congratulations on a 22-0 perfect season!
Girls Basketball - JV Defeats the Bulldogs

The JV Lady Eagles claimed their 21st win on the season with a victory over the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs on Saturday. The Eagles took control of the game early and were leading by a score of 17 to 8 at the half. They extended their lead and put the pressure on the Bulldogs, winning the game by a final score of 34 to 17. The Eagles were led in scoring by Regan Betts with 11 points followed by Alyssa Douzos with 6 points and Sarah Sprecher with 5 points. Come show your support and cheer on the Eagles as they look to finish their season unbeaten as they host Midview on Wednesday at 6:00.

The Varsity Lady Eagles improved their record to 12-8 overall and 9-4 in conference play with their win last night against the Lady Sailors of Vermilion 52-37. The Eagles dominated throughout the game both offensively and defensively behind the great efforts of Freshman, Catie Kelly. Catie Kelly played tenacious defense leading the team with 3 steals, and she also led the team offensively with 11 points. Sophomore, Brianna Conroy contributed 10 points. Junior, Payton Mitchell and Freshman, Allie Bjorn both contributed 7 points each. Freshman, Allie Bjorn led the team with 8 rebounds and Sophomore, Sierra Davidson grabbed 6. The team hosts Olmsted Falls this Saturday at Avon @ 2:30pm. Please come out and show your support! Go Eagles!
The JV Lady Eagles captured their 20th win of the season in their victory over the Vermilion Sailors last night. The Eagles started the game strong and took a 16 to 4 lead after the first quarter. They extended their lead in the second quarter to lead the Sailors 26 to 11 at the half. The Eagles continued to play good team defense in the second half and won the game by a final score of 40 to 28. The Eagles were led by Alyssa Douzos and Sarah Sprecher who each had 10 points. The Avon Lady Eagles hung on to beat the Panthers of Elyria Catholic 48-46 this past Saturday. The Eagles are now tied for second place in the West Shore Conference with Elyria Catholic. The Eagles improved their overall record to 11-6 and 8-2 in conference play. The Eagles were led by Sophomores Sierra Davidson and Jessica Yurkovich who both contributed 9 points, Freshman Allie Bjorn scored 8 points, and Senior Brianna Smith and Sophomore Brianna Conroy both chipped in 6 points apiece. The Eagles played aggressive and tenacious defense to beat the panthers and to reenter the hunt for the Conference Championship. The Eagles travel to Rocky River this Wednesday @ 6pm. The JV Lady Eagles soared to victory over the Elyria Catholic Panthers on Saturday. The game was very close in the first quarter with the Eagles winning 8 to 7. The Eagles asserted their dominance in the second quarter outscoring the Panthers 22 to 3 taking a 30 to 10 lead into the half. The Eagles continued to extend their lead in the second half and won the game by a final score of 47 to 16. Leading the Eagles with multiple steals and in scoring was Regan Betts with 20 points. Adding 2 3-pointers each was Sarah Sprecher with a total of 11 points and Alex Kozich with a total of 8 points. The Eagles will look to continue their winning streak as they travel to Rocky River on Wednesday at 6:00.

The win for the Varsity Lady Eagles brings the team’s winning streak to 6 in a row. The Eagles beat North Ridgeville 44-26 after a slow start last night. The Eagles were led by Freshman, Catie Kelly who scored 10 points, 3 assists and had 5 steals. Senior, Tina Petrillo contributed 8 points and had 5 steals and Sophomore, Sierra Davidson grabbed 10 rebounds and contributed 6 points. The team is now 10-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Lady Eagles host the Panthers of Elyria Catholic this Saturday @ 2:30pm. Please come out and show your support as the team tries to extend their winning streak to 7. Go Eagles!!!
The JV Lady Eagles extended their winning streak to 16 with their victory over North Ridgeville last night. The Eagles started the game playing swarming defense, creating many turnovers. They outscored the Rangers 18 to 8 in the first quarter and 17 to 2 in the second quarter to take a 35 to 10 lead into the half. They continued their dominance in the second half and won the game by a final score of 49 to 19. The Eagles were led defensively by Kassie Clements, Katie Malloy and Jaylise Medcalf. Soph. Brianna Conroy battles two Lakewood players for a rebound
The Varsity Lady Eagles extend their winning streak to 5 with their big win against the Lady Rangers of Lakewood. The Eagles have improved their overall record to 9-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play. On Friday night, he Eagles pulled out the victory in overtime beating the Rangers 50-42. Offensively, the Eagles were led by sophomore, Brianna Conroy who had 23 points, sophomore, Sierra Davidson who had 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and sophomore, Jessica Yurkovich who added 12 points. Defensively, the Eagles were led by the aggressive play of Senior, Bri Smith and freshman, Catie Kelly. The Eagles travel to North Ridgeville this Wednesday @ 7:30pm. The JV Lady Eagles won their 15th straight game defeating Lakewood on Saturday. The Eagles played hard but were trailing at the half 17 to 13. They soared back in the third quarter outscoring the Rangers 21 to 4 to take a 34 to 21 lead entering the fourth quarter. The Eagles were able to withstand the pressure put on by the Rangers and won the game by a final score of 44 to 34. Kassie Clements and Alyssa Douzos led the team playing great defense to close out the victory for the Eagles. The Eagles were led in scoring by Sarah Sprecher with 13 points and Regan Betts with 10 points. The Eagles will travel to North Ridgeville on Wednesday at 6:00.

In the nightcap, the boys team used a big second half to route the Rangers 57-38. Avon (8-5, 6-2 in the WSC) was led by Brian Kelly with 12 points, Jack Poyle added 10 points, Zach Torbert also ended the night in double figures with 10 points.

After a difficult start to the season, the Lady Eagles have won their last four games in great team fashion. Last night the Eagles defeated the Shoregals from Avon Lake 52-38 improving the team's record to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The team came out from the start with great intensity and carried this throughout the game. The Eagles host the #1 team in the conference, Lakewood, this Friday night in a revenge match. Please come out and support both the Boys and Girls Varsity teams at 6pm and 7:30pm @ Avon High School. Go Eagles!

The Varsity Lady Eagles improved their overall record to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in the West Shore Conference in their great win last night against the Lady Sailors of Vermilion 49-37. The Eagles were led by sophomore, Jess Yurkovich who contributed 15 points and Senior, Tina Petrillo who added 7. Defensively, Junior, Payton Mitchell and Senior, Bri Smith were sparks off the bench to play great defense and to hold Vermilion to only 1 point in the 4th quarter. Great Team Win Eagles! The Varsity Lady Eagles increased their record to 5-6 overall with their dominant win over Keystone last night 66-14. The Eagles came out to a great start being led by sophomores, Sierra Davidson who scored 16 points and had 6 steals and Brianna Conroy who added 12 points and had 3 steals. Senior, Bri Smith was a spark off the bench contributing 8 points and had 5 steals. This was a great team win. Go Eagles!
The JV Lady Eagles continued their winning ways last night as they soared over the Keystone Wildcats to win their eleventh straight game of the season. The eagles took control of the game from the opening tip, leading 14 to 0 after the first quarter. They extended their lead in the second quarter to take a 27 to 4 halftime lead. The Eagles continued to play hard throughout the second half and won the game by a final score of 45 to 15. They were led by Alyssa Douzos with 13 points including 3 3-pointers and Regan Betts with 8 points. The Eagles are off until next Wednesday when they will host Vermilion at 6:00.

The Lady Eagles improved their record to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play with their win over Bay Village 45-37 last night. The Eagles came out strong to take a 12-2 lead in the first quarter led by Junior, Payton Mitchell and Freshman, Catie Kelly who contributed 6 points each. The Eagles were also led throughout the game by the strong post presence of Senior, Kaitlin Neumann who added 5 points and Freshman, Allie Bjorn who added 8 points. Junior, Brianna Conroy led the Eagles in scoring finishing with 9 points. The Eagles travel to Amherst for the Holiday Tournament on Thursday, December 27th @ 6pm. The Eagles soared out in the 3rd quarter outscoring the Rockets 21 to 11 and never looked back as they won the game by a final score of 47 to 35. The Eagles were led by Sarah Sprecher with 15 points, 12 of which came on four 3-pointers. Regan Betts added 11 points and Jessie Yurkovich added 9 points. The girls will take part in the Amherst Holiday tournament next week. Come cheer them on as they take on Elyria next Thursday at 7:30.

The Eagles started the game with great intensity and despite early fouls took a 20 to 8 lead into halftime. The Pirates stormed back in the third quarter leaving the Eagles with only a three point advantage to start the fourth quarter. The Eagles were able to maintain their lead as Katie Malloy knocked down a basket and a crucial foul shot at the end of the game. The Eagles won the game by a final score of 34 to 29. The JV Lady Eagles won their second conference game and fifth overall with their victory on Saturday over the Lakewood Rangers. The Eagles started strong and were in control of the game throughout. They held a 22 to 9 lead at halftime and won the game by a final score of 48 to 17. The Eagles were lead in scoring by Jessie Yurkovich with 11 points, 9 of which came on three three-pointers. Regan Betts added 10 points and Sarah Sprecher added 9 points. The Eagles will travel to Elyria Catholic on Wednesday with a 6:00 tip time.

The Varsity Lady Eagles soared past North Ridgeville 52-27 last night. The Eagles are now 2-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Eagles were led by Junior, Payton Mitchell who contributed 12 points. Sophomore, Bri Conroy and Freshman, Catie Kelly contributed 10 points apiece. Sophomore, Sierra Davidson led the team with 5 steals, and Senior, Kaitlin Neumann added 3 more. The Eagles played aggressive defense led by Seniors Tina Petrillo, Bri Smith, and Meaghan Rooney and Junior, Rachael Poling. The team finished with 23 steals overall. The Eagles won the battle of the boards being led by Sophomore, Bri Conroy and Junior, Erin Crotty. This was a great team effort and we look forward to many more. Last night the Avon Freshman Girls Basketball team won a decisive victory over North Ridgeville with a score of 54-13. The Eagles were led by Shannon Kane with 14 points, followed by Zanny Sauter with 11 and Alyssa Douzos with 9. The entire team played outstanding defense all night and commanded the game from start to finish. Come out and support the girls as they play Lakewood this Saturday at home.

The JV Lady Eagles earned their third victory of the season on Saturday over the Westlake Demons. The first quarter was evenly matched with the Eagles taking an 11 to 8 lead. They stepped up the intensity in the second quarter to take a 30 to 15 lead into halftime. The Demons came out of halftime and outscored the Eagles in the third quarter by 6 to cut the lead to 36 to 27 after three quarters. The Eagles were able to maintain their lead throughout the fourth quarter to win the game by a final score of 44 to 35. The Eagles were led in scoring by Allie Bjorn with 16 points and Jessie Yurkovich with 8 points. Come and support the Eagles as they host North Ridgeville on Wednesday at 6:00.

The JV Lady Eagles claimed their second victory of the season last night with their victory over the St. Joseph Jaguars. The Eagles started the game with great intensity and were able to take a 15 to 5 lead after the first quarter. They extended their lead in the second quarter and were winning 24 to 12 at the half. The Jaguars rallied in the third quarter but the Eagles maintained their composure and won the game by a final score of 43 to 28. The Eagles were led by Jessie Yurkovich with 15 points and Allie Bjorn with 12 points. Come see them Saturday at home with a 1:00 tip time when they host the Westlake Demons.

After a slow start, the Avon Lady Eagles came out strong in the second half being led by sophomore, Brianna Conroy who contributed 14 points and 6 rebounds and Senior, Tina Petrillo who contributed 12 points. Avon led the battle of the boards with sophomore, Sierra Davidson grabbing 13 rebounds and Senior, Kaitlin Neumann grabbing 5. Defensively, senior, Bri Smith had 3 steals and junior, Rachael Poling had 2 steals and contributed 4 points each. Freshman Catie Kelly contributed 5 points and grabbed 4 boards in her debut. The Lady Eagles travel to St. Joseph Academy this Wednesday. Go Eagles!
The JV Lady Eagles started their season with a victory over the North Olmsted Lady Eagles. The team was lead in scoring by Allie Bjorn with 20 points, Jessie Yurkovich with 10 points and Regan Betts with 9 points. After a hard fought first half Avon was in the lead 26-21. With good team defense lead by Allie Bjorn with multiple blocks Avon took control of the game in the second half and won by a final score of 48-31. Their next game will be this Wednesday at St. Joes.
