Girls Tennis - Moving on to Districts
October 5, 2012
Avon Varsity Girls played on Friday October 5th at Oberlin College. Abby Schwartz lost in a tough match against Dunbar of Westlake 6-1, 6-2. Dunbar started off slowly but suddenly found her game and although Abby played great tennis it did not end up the way we wanted. Annie DeLuca and Madisyn Rini had already secured a place in the Districts coming up this Thursday, all they had to do now was battle for a seeding. Their first match against the 2nd seeded Magnificat team Patrick/Johnson was a hard fought match loosing 6-3, 6-3 it was now up to who won between Westlake and Magnificat 3rd seed team to see who they would play next. We sat down and watched, came up with a match plan which secured them a 6-0, 6-3 win over 3rd seeded Magnificat team Miller/McCabe. Avon girls will go in 3rd seed on Thursday with a great chance of going further, I just told the girls we needed to win that match not to be 4th seed and therefore not having to play a 1st seeded team first and they pulled it off with some of the best tennis I have seen them play together.

Girls Tennis Beats Laurel School
September 27, 2012
The Avon girls came to fight for todays match against Laurel and it paid off with a 3-2 win, winning 1st and 2nd doubles and 2nd singles. I am so proud of the girls they knew it was going to be tough and they all played the best tennis I have seen this year, I played the sectional line up to give all the girls an idea of what they might see in sectionals.
1st singles Buchinsky (L) d Schwartz 6-0, 6-0. 2nd singles Mentler (A) d Feng (L) 6-3, 6-1. 3rd singles Hata (L) d Nakon (A) 6-1, 6-4
1st doubles DeLuca/Rini (A) d Hilten/Suhter (L) 6-1, 6-0. 2nd doubles Cirilo/Monroe (A) d Tabachnir/Moore (L) 6-1, 5-7, 7-5

Girls Tennis Beats Lakewood
September 25, 2012
This was Avon's last conference match and despite the wind they beat Lakewood 5 - 0 giving them an un defeated record winning 7 - 0 in conference and also being LCAAA champions. This weekend is the conference tournament so hopefully we will be able to hold on to that as well, we will have to play Rocky River and Bay well to do so.
Todays scores were as follows:
1st singles Rini(A) d Wood (LK) 6-0, 6-0. 2nd singles Schwartz (A) d Shaw (LK) 6-1, 6-3. 3rd singles Mentler (A) d Miller (LK) 6-0, 6-0
1st doubles (A) DeLuca/Nakon d Hoffert/Ritscael (LK) 6-3, 6-0. 2nd doubles Cirilo/Monroe (A) d Erner/Elder (LK) 6-1, 6-3
The wind was a real factor as the balls were moving all over the place making it really important to keep you eye on the ball, it was the worst conditions we have had to play in all year and a good practice for sectionals as it is normally colder and windier this time of year.

Avon welcomed Bay Village in their 4th conference match and managed to get a 4 - 1 win against Bay. Our 2nd doubles Melissa Cirilo and Riley Monroe won their 6th 3 set match, which as it was Melissa birthday was a perfect end to a perfect day. The three peat LCAAA champions showed today why they are champions remaining un defeated in their conference. Abby Schwatrz served like a professional and won easily, Hall Mentler still suffering from the cold she had over the LCAAA weekend managed to win in straight sets by pure determination and by changing it up and keeping her opponent guessing, 1st Dbls told me they were having fun and it shows with a easy win, 1st singles Madisyn Rini fought hard against a really great player sometimes the scores do not dictate the play as was in this case, Rini played her games and was in every point.Avon welcomed Bay Village in their 4th conference match and managed to get a 4 - 1 win against Bay.
