Hockey Defeats the Shoremen
January 22, 2013
The Avon Eagle hockey team defeated Avon Lake last night at the Rocky River Hamilton Ice Arena by an 8-3 score in a Blue West league game. The Eagles rallied from a two goal deficit after the first period, taking a 4-2 lead into the third before closing out the win. Joe Sefchik made 25 saves in goal earning the win. Offensively the Eagles were led by Eric Novakovic with five goals and one assist. Neal Novotny scored two goals and Joe Goetz scored one goal. Contributing assists on the goals were Hayden McDougald with four, Alex Guzik and Braeden Friss with two each, and Nick Stevens, Dominic Bowlin, and Neal Novotny with one each.
The Avon Eagle Hockey team continues their season this weekend with two important league games, Saturday at 5:30pm versus Olmsted Falls and Sunday at 3:15pm versus Benedictine. Both games are at home at the North Olmsted Recreation Center.
2nd Annual Avon Hockey Tournament

Congratulations to the Lakewood Rangers, who took 1st place in the 2nd Annual Avon Hockey Tournament. The Rangers defeated the Avon Eagles by a score of 3-2 in overtime.

Hockey: Lose to Mayfield; Beat Aurora

The Avon Eagle hockey team split a pair of league games this past weekend. Saturday, the Eagles lost at home to the Mayfield Wildcats by a 4-1 score. Scoring for the Eagles was Eric Novakovic with an assist from Pat Baeder. Joe Sefchik made 20 saves in goal.
Sunday, the Eagles traveled out to Aurora and beat the Greenmen 5-1. Hayden McDougald, Braeden Friss, Alex Guzik, and Eric Novakovic with two goals scored for Avon. Helping with the scoring with assists were Neal Novotny with three, Alex Guzik with two, Dominic Bowlin with two, and Braeden Friss with one. Erik DeChant made 9 saves in goal.
The Avon Eagle Hockey team continues their season this weekend in the Lorain County Tournament. All games are at the Elyria Ice Rink. The Eagles play twice on Saturday, 10:30 am vs Amherst and at 8:00pm vs Midview. Sunday, the Eagles face-off against Amherst again at 10:30am.
Hockey Splits Over Weekend

The Avon Eagle hockey team played their first two league games over this past weekend splitting the pair of contests. Saturday, the Eagles jumped out to a 4-3 lead after the first period but could not hold on, eventually losing 9-6 to a very solid North Canton Hoover squad. Scoring for the Eagles were Eric Novakovic with 4 goals, Christian Heironymus and Neal Novotny. Joe Sefchik made 20 saves in goal.
Sunday, the Eagles beat arch rival Avon Lake 9-2 behind 5 goals from Eric Novakovic and 4 goals from Hayden McDougald. Erik DeChant earned the win in goal. This was the hockey team's first ever league win. Congratulations to all members of the team!
The Avon Eagle Hockey team continues their season with a home game Saturday 12/8 at 5:30pm versus Mayfield at the North Olmsted Recreation Center and plays at Aurora on Sunday 12/9 at 6:40pm.
Hockey Wins Canfield Tournament!

Avon Eagles Hockey Team
The Avon Eagle Hockey team started regular season play this past weekend by winning the Canfield Thanksgiving tournament for the second year in a row. The Eagles won preliminary round games over Mentor JV 7-0, West Geauga 8-2, and Canfield 8-0. The Eagles then beat West Geauga 7-3 in the Championship game Sunday afternoon. Leading the Eagles offensively were Eric Novakovic, Hayden McDougald, and Neal Novotny. Defensively the Eagles were led by Braeden Friss and Pat Baeder while Joe Sefchik and Erik DeChant were solid in goal. The Avon Eagle hockey team starts league play this coming weekend with two home games at the North Olmsted Recreation Center, Saturday versus North Canton Hoover at 5:30pm and Sunday versus Avon Lake at 3:15pm.
