Boys Track Win WSC Championship

Brentten Wiley won the 100M and 300M hurdles

The boys track team captured the WSC Championship on Friday, running (and throwing) to six first-place victories, finishing ahead of N. Ridgeville by a healthy margin (189-148). Brentten Wiley, Austin Fasciana and Paul Sturm all won individual championships. The 3200M and 800M relay teams also won their events. The WSC title was the second (2010) in three years for the boys team.

The girls team placed fourth.

Records Set @ Bulldog Relays - Wiley Stands Out

On Friday at the Bulldog Relays, the boys set school records in both the 4 x 400 meter relay (Brentten Wiley, Brendan Cannon, Paul Yeager and John DeMarco) and 4 x 200 meter relay (Wiley, Sam Bitter, Antonio Orr and DeMarco). Wiley received Most Valuable Track Athlete honors as part of those two winning relays, winning the 110 meter high hurdles, and coming in second as part of the shuttle hurdle relay team. Both teams placed second.

The varsity track teams will be competing at home this Wednesday and Friday (5/9 and 5/11) in the West Shore Conference meet. Competition begins at 4:30 on both days. Come out to support our athletes. Good luck, ladies and gentlemen.


Avon Reynolds Relays Re-Cap

On Saturday, The Avon Reynolds Relay meet took place in unseasonably cold conditions. The boys placed 3rd and the girls placed 6th amongst stiff competition of 15 boys teams and 16 girls teams.

The 4 x 400 meter relays did not disappoint the crowd. On the JV side Zayd Albakri, Andrew Foye, Matt Beltz and Ryan Prieto held on for second place. The varsity girls 4 x 400 (Monica Bickley, Natalie Wilden, Payton Mitchell and Kaitlyn Foye) placed 4th. The boys 4 x 400 team of Brentten Wiley, Brendan Cannon and Paul Yeager set John DeMarco up to decisively pass two teams on the last leg, capturing first and a school record (3:30.49).

A solid performance came from the distance medley relay team (DMR) of Maddie Toth, Abby Schwartz, Annie Bowen and Linda Morales, which placed fourth, while eclipsing the school record (13:21.89).

DMR team of Ben Smith, Tyler Lenchak, Nick Telidis and Blake Pecoraro (6th), sprint medley team of Logan Juhl, Antonio Orr, Nick Telidis and Jake Bitter (4th), Ali Clark (5th) and Austin Fasciana (2nd) in the 1600, Maddi Ferguson (3rd) and Nick Kearney (4th) in the JV 800, Orr (5th) in the 100 and Wiley (5th) in the 110 hurdles, relay team Madison Cooper and Monica Bickley in the high jump (2nd), relay team Jessica Yurkovich and Holly Johnson in the long jump (5th), relay team brothers Drew and Jordan Lawrence in the high jump (4th), the shuttle hurdle relay team of Mitchell, Katy Taranto, Jalen Davis and Emily Welch (6th), shuttle hurdle relay team of Tyler Lenchak, Will Sharer, Nick Telidis and Wiley (3rd), Maddy Michelich and Paige Decker in the shot put (3rd), Corey Furnas and Paul Sturm in the discus (6th), Furnas and Isaiah Pinto in the shot put (6th), 4 x 1600 meter relay of Fasciana, Sean Kane, Alex Shermak and Pecoraro (3rd), the girls 4 x 1600 meter relay team of Clark, Morales, Toth and Bowen (4th), the JV 4 x 100 relay team of Albakri, Eli Straub, Chase Gosselin and Foye (6th), and the 4 x 200 relay team of Wiley, Bitter, Orr and DeMarco (3rd).

Avon boys and girls head to the Bulldog Relays in Olmsted Falls this Friday. Nice job this weekend, ladies and gentlemen!
